Two Accidents in Two Days on Padma Bridge Expressway Leave Two Dead
Damaged buses at the scene of the accident on the Padma Bridge Expressway in Shariatpur's Jajira upazila.

Two separate road accidents over two days in the Naodoba bus stand area of the Padma Bridge Expressway in Shariatpur's Jajira upazila have left two people dead and at least seven others injured. On Wednesday (October 28), an elderly woman named Shukurjan Bibi (65) was killed after being hit by a speeding microbus. A day later on Thursday (October 29) afternoon, bus driver Nazrul Islam was killed when an Ena Paribahan bus crashed into the back of a stationary bus.

The deceased woman, Shukurjan Bibi, was the wife of the late Majid Fakir from the Moushamanda area of Munshiganj's Louhajang upazila. Meanwhile, the deceased bus driver, Nazrul Islam, was a resident of the Angaria area under Dumki police station in Patuakhali, and his father was Sattar Howladar.

According to police and local sources, around 7:00 PM on Wednesday, Shukurjan Bibi was crossing the Padma Bridge Expressway on the Bhanga-bound lane south of the Naodoba bus stand. At that moment, a speeding Dhaka-to-Bhanga microbus hit her, leaving her critically injured. Locals attempted to take her to a hospital, but she died on the way. The microbus fled the scene following the accident.

The following day, on Thursday around 4:30 PM, another accident involving two passenger buses took place in the same area. A stationary Narail Express bus heading towards Dhaka was struck from behind by another Ena Paribahan bus. This impact resulted in the instant death of Ena Paribahan driver Nazrul Islam and injured seven others, while both buses sustained heavy damage.

Upon receiving the news, personnel from Shibchar Highway Police Station rushed to the spot, rescued the injured, arranged for their treatment at a local hospital, and took the wrecked buses into custody.

Regarding Thursday's accident, Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Enamul Hasan of Shibchar Highway Police Station stated that police promptly arrived at the scene to rescue the passengers. The driver of the Ena Paribahan bus was killed and seven others were injured. Necessary legal actions will be taken upon receiving a written complaint.
