Two officials of the Dhaka District North Detective Branch (DB) of Police have been closed following proven allegations of extorting approximately Tk 38 lakh through fake drug cases, reducing seized drug quantities in police records, and framing innocent individuals during anti-narcotics drives in Savar. Dhaka District North DB Police Inspector Saidul Islam confirmed the development on Monday night (October 19, 2026). The closed officers are Sub-Inspector (SI) Matiur Rahman and Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Mehedi.

According to victims and investigative sources, over the past two months, the team led by these two officers operated extensively across Savar, Ashulia, and Dhamrai—releasing detainees in exchange for hefty bribes, reducing recorded drug seizures, and framing people. Specific charges include detaining a woman in Ashulia and extorting Tk 1.4 lakh by threatening her with a heroin case, as well as releasing suspects or underreporting seized quantities of Yaba and cannabis in Kaichabari and Aminbazar. ASI Mehedi had reportedly built a strong local network of informants due to his nearly four-year tenure in the same unit. DB OC Saidul Islam stated that the officers were closed following a preliminary investigation, and departmental action will be taken if allegations are fully substantiated.
