A mobile court in Faridpur, Pabna, has fined two factory owners a total of 1.2 million (1,20,000) taka for manufacturing adulterated ghee and selling it without BSTI approval. During the operation, 100 kilograms of adulterated chhana (curdled milk solids) were publicly destroyed.

On Monday afternoon, Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Mahmuda Sultana conducted this drive in the Demra area of the upazila.

Faridpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Monjurul Hasan Masud confirmed this information.

Pabna BSTI Field Officer Rokibul Hasan Ripon, Upazila Veterinary Surgeon Dr. Md. Alhaj Uddin, along with members of the police force, were present during the operation.

It was revealed that Rafiqul Islam and Alam Hossain had been manufacturing and selling adulterated ghee without BSTI approval in the Demra Bazar area for a long time. Acting on a tip-off, Pabna BSTI and the Faridpur Upazila Administration conducted a joint operation there on Monday afternoon. During the drive, evidence was found that both factories were producing adulterated ghee in unhygienic environments and marketing them without BSTI certification. At that time, 100 kg of adulterated chhana was publicly destroyed. Subsequently, under the relevant provisions of the Consumer Rights Protection Act, each factory owner was fined 60,000 taka (totaling 120,000 taka).

Executive Magistrate Mahmuda Sultana stated that such mobile court drives and market monitoring operations will continue regularly to ensure safe and standard food products in the public interest.
