An uncle has been murdered by his nephew in a rural area of Balaganj, following a dispute over money. The incident took place in Muslimabad village, located in the Purba Gouripur Union of Balaganj Upazila.

On the night of October 25, 2026, 60-year-old Mirza Abdul Latif Abul Mia was attacked by his nephew, 35-year-old Mirza Titu, in the courtyard of his own home. He was rushed to the Fenchuganj Upazila Health Complex, where the attending physician declared him dead.

The conflict between the uncle and nephew stemmed from a dispute regarding the payment of 1.2 million (12 lakh) taka from the sale of a house, as well as issues concerning construction work on the property. The Balaganj police recovered the body and sent it to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital for an autopsy.

Following the autopsy, Mirza Abdul Latif Abul Mia was laid to rest on the night of October 26, 2026. As of 8:00 PM on Monday, October 26, 2026, no formal case had been filed. Abdul Latif Tarafder, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Balaganj Police Station, stated that multiple police teams are actively working to apprehend those involved in the incident.

Dr. Mirza Abu Naser Mohammad Rahel, the Ward 6 member for Muslimabad village—where the incident occurred—reported that the situation in the area remains calm. The burial has been completed, and preparations for filing a case are underway.
