Gangachara Upazila administration officials visited injured senior journalist Abdul Bari Dulal at the Gangachara 50-bed hospital to check on his physical condition and medical treatment on Monday morning (October 5, 2026). Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mosammat Jesmin Akter, Assistant Commissioner (Land) Hamidur Islam, Livestock Officer Dr. Md. Mahfuzar Rahman, Agriculture Officer Md. Rubel Husen, and Cooperative Officer Aftabuzzaman Chayan met with the journalist and instructed medical staff—including Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr. Abu Md. Alemul Bashar—to ensure proper advanced care for his head, left leg, and bodily injuries. The assault occurred on Friday evening (October 2) at Omar Bazar in Gajghanta union, where local perpetrators allegedly waylaid Dulal—Gangachara correspondent for Daily Lakhokontho and Daily Protidin er Barta and vice-president of the Upazila Press Club—and beat him, snatching Tk 35,000 in cash and a smartphone following his news reports on a mobile court raid conducted by the land office against illegal sand and topsoil extraction on September 30. While journalist associations across Rangpur have strongly condemned the attack and demanded immediate arrests, police and local authorities continue to investigate the incident involving prime suspects Kamruzzaman and Amanullah Aman.
