Traffic movement on the Dhaka-Tangail Highway has returned to normal after remaining suspended for nearly seven hours due to worker protests in various parts of Kaliakair upazila under Gazipur district.

Following a day-long build-up of tension on Sunday (November 1), law enforcement forces used sound grenades and tear gas shells in the afternoon to bring the situation under control and restore normalcy.

Earlier in the morning, areas including Konabari, Shafipur, Chandra, and Palli Bidyut in Gazipur turned into battlefields as workers demonstrated on the highway demanding a minimum salary of 30,000 BDT. Repeated clashes broke out between workers and police at multiple locations. Agitating workers set fire to a police box and vandalized several vehicles, forcing traffic to a complete halt for seven hours.

Meanwhile, due to a 30-kilometer traffic jam resulting from the road blockade, vehicles on the highway continue to experience slow movement.
