Garment factory workers staged a blockade on the Dhaka-Tangail highway and held protests demanding increased wages and bonuses in Kaliakair, Gazipur.
On Tuesday (October 27) around 11:00 AM, the incident occurred across the Mouchak, Shafipur, Palli Bidyut, and Chandra areas of the upazila.
The blockade caused massive traffic gridlocks on both lanes of the highway, leaving passengers and commuters from various walks of life suffering immensely.
According to local sources, workers from several garment factories in the Mouchak area suspended work and took positions on the highway, shouting slogans demanding higher wages and bonuses.
At one point, vandalism occurred at a local factory named Sadma Textile. Subsequently, workers blocked both lanes of the Dhaka-Tangail highway to continue protests, disrupting traffic and causing long tailbacks.
Sadma Textile mill worker Md. Sujon stated that around 11:30 AM, suddenly 50 to 60 workers arrived in front of the factory and began vandalizing, later moving to the Dhaka-Tangail highway to start agitating. Although asked to join the movement, he chose not to participate, he added.
