Former Union Parishad Chairman and local businessman Md. Shahadat Hossain Shado addressing a press conference at the Hakimpur Press Club in Hili, Dinajpur.

Local businessman and former Union Parishad Chairman Md. Shahadat Hossain Shado has held a press conference alleging extortion, locking up of shops, vandalism, and death threats at the Khatauchana market in Hakimpur upazila, Dinajpur. He has demanded a thorough investigation and proper legal action regarding the incident.

Speaking at a press conference organized at the Hakimpur Press Club on Sunday (October 4), Shahadat Hossain stated in his written statement that several local individuals have been demanding extortion from market businessmen for a long time. When they refused to pay the extortion money, their shops were locked, goods were thrown outside, and they faced intimidation and death threats.

He further alleged that shops were locked in several phases on September 21 and 22. He accused the perpetrators of taking 50,000 cash from one shop and keeping several other shops locked with the intention of occupying them. Additionally, there are allegations of attempts to occupy properties belonging to businessmen.

Shahadat Hossain said that no remedy was found even after trying to resolve the matter locally. Later, he filed a written complaint at the Hakimpur police station. During the press conference, he demanded a proper investigation into these incidents, legal action against those involved, and ensured security for the businessmen.
