
Police have recovered the bodies of four people, including three women, within a 24-hour span in Ashulia, on the outskirts of the capital. Initial police investigation suggests that two of the women were murdered, while the circumstances surrounding the death of another woman are currently being examined. A man has been detained on charges of killing his wife in connection with one of these incidents.
Tariqul Islam, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Ashulia Police Station, confirmed the information on Thursday afternoon.
Police and local sources reported that at around 7:30 AM on Thursday, the bloody body of a housewife named Akhi Akter (24) was recovered from a rented house owned by Haji Khalek in the Pallibidyut area on Tongabari Bangabandhu Road under Ashulia Union. Her husband, Jahid Hasan (27), reportedly killed her with a sharp weapon following family disputes and suspicion of an extramarital affair. Police detained Jahid Hasan at the scene with the assistance of locals.
The deceased, Akhi, was the daughter of Abed Ali from Ghagra Kabirajpara village in Jhenaigati Upazila, Sherpur. The arrested Jahid Hasan is the son of Taijuddin from Sitpara village in Nalitabari Upazila of the same district.
Earlier on Wednesday night, police recovered the unclothed and bloody body of a woman named Roksana Begum (40) from the rooftop of an under-construction building in the Uttar Kaltasuti Morichkata area of Shimulia Union, Ashulia. She was the wife of Dubai expatriate Mokbul Hossain, hailing from the Dakkhin Pakulla area of Kaliakair Upazila, Gazipur. The couple had started living on the third floor of the under-construction building about two months ago.
According to relatives, Roksana went to the rooftop on Wednesday evening to inspect the water tank. When she did not return for a long time, family members searched for her and eventually found her body on the roof.
Ashulia Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Noor Amin stated that Roksana’s throat bore deep injuries caused by a sharp weapon. Police are investigating various angles, including extortion demands related to the new house construction, financial disputes, and potential extramarital affairs.
On the afternoon of the same day, police recovered the body of a female garment worker named Tania Khatun from a rented house owned by Delowar Hossain Dewan near Pagla Bazar in Shimulia. She worked at a local garment factory of Palmal Group and lived in that house. Signs of injury and strangulation were found on her neck. Tania, a divorcee, was the daughter of Mizanur Rahman from the Bagdanga area of Satkhira Sadar Upazila.
Additionally, on Wednesday afternoon, police recovered the hanging body of a man named Tariqul (38) from a rented flat owned by Kazi Md. Abdul Awal in the Jamgora Eastern Housing area of Ashulia. His wife, Moriyam (32), had locked the door from the outside when leaving for work in the morning. Upon returning at noon, she found Tariqul’s body hanging from a ceiling fan with a rope.
Ashulia Police Station OC Tariqul Islam stated that two of the four cases are confirmed murders, while murder is suspected in a third case. The exact causes of death will be determined following autopsies. All four bodies are being sent to the Shahid Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital morgue in the capital for autopsy.
He added that Jahid Hasan was immediately detained for the murder of his wife Akhi Akter, and multiple police teams are actively working to unveil the real causes and identify and arrest those involved in the separate incidents.
