Police have recovered the body of a 50-year-old housewife named Jesmin Begum from her home in Sialkathi village under Kaukhali upazila. On Sunday morning, relatives noticed the back door of the house open and household items scattered inside, prompting them to inform the police.
The deceased, Jesmin Begum, was a resident of Sialkathi village and the wife of the late Keramat Ali, a retired police officer. Following her husband's death a few years ago, she had been living in the house with her younger daughter.
According to family sources, Jesmin returned home by auto-rickshaw at around 8:30 PM on Saturday and was alone in the house that night. On Sunday morning, relatives noticed the back door open. Upon entering, they found both the back and roof doors open. Family members stated that upon inspecting the rooms, they found furniture, wardrobes, and other belongings scattered around.
When they called out to Jesmin and received no response, they discovered her body lying in one of the rooms. According to the relatives, the body was unclothed, and the floor of the room appeared wet with water poured over it.
Local public representatives and prominent figures rushed to the scene upon hearing the news and notified the police. Subsequently, a police team led by Kaukhali Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Anwar Hossain visited the scene, inspected the location, collected various pieces of evidence, and captured photographs.
Police stated that after preparing the inquest report, the body will be sent to the Pirojpur District Hospital morgue for an autopsy. The exact cause of death will be confirmed following the autopsy and a thorough investigation.
Family sources further revealed that after her first husband's death, Jesmin Begum had married a second time. Relatives mentioned that the man's name is Manik, though recent strains had developed in their relationship. Police are actively investigating this angle.
The news of the incident drew a large crowd of locals to the house, creating a heart-wrenching atmosphere amidst the wails of the grieving relatives.
Kaukhali Police Station OC Mohammad Anwar Hossain stated that police inspected the scene immediately upon receiving the information. "After preparing the inquest report, the body is being sent to the Pirojpur morgue for autopsy. The exact cause of death will be known after the post-mortem and investigation," he said, adding that all aspects of the incident are being looked into, and whether sexual violence or any other crime occurred will be confirmed once investigation and autopsy reports are finalized.
