Press Conference Held in Galachipa Demanding Arrest of Warranted Accused
Victims and family members addressing a press conference at the Galachipa Press Club demanding the arrest of warranted accused Anwar Dewan over a land dispute assault.

A press conference was held in Galachipa, Patuakhali, demanding the immediate arrest of Anwar Dewan, a peon at Galachipa Government College and an accused named in an arrest warrant, following a violent assault stemming from a land dispute. The victim's family held the conference at the Galachipa Press Club office on Tuesday at 10:00 AM.

Reading a written statement at the press conference, Md. Masum Billah Sohag Dewan stated, "On September 12 at around 11:00 PM, while I (Sohag Dewan), Russel Khalifa, and Rajib Khalifa were heading home past Galachipa Government College, a group of armed terrorists—including Anwar Dewan, Kamal, Mijanur, Ibrahim, and Sekandar Dewan, along with 7 to 8 unidentified individuals—intercepted us and attacked us with iron rods. Rajib Khalifa suffered severe bone fractures to his right arm during the assault. Following the incident, Md. Russel Khalifa filed a case at Galachipa Police Station on September 13 against Md. Anwar Dewan (37), Md. Kamal Dewan (35), Md. Mijanur Dewan (38), Md. Ibrahim Dewan (34), Md. Sekandar Ali Dewan (55), and 7 to 8 unnamed individuals."

He further added, "The land grabbers forcibly seized our land. Not only that, but they have also been illegally occupying registered land belonging to many others. During the tenure of the previous government, eight members of their family illegally secured jobs in various positions across different institutions. Furthermore, they forcibly took possession of registered, occupied land belonging to the late Md. Malek Mridha, Yunuch Mridha, and Rowshan Ara Begum. Under the cover of night, the attackers demolished a dwelling house on Rowshan Ara Begum's registered land and dug a shallow well there. Additionally, accused Md. Mijanur, a peon at Galachipa Ideal School and College, dammed a flowing government canal used for local irrigation to practice fish farming and plant trees, disrupting farming for hundreds of local farmers and leaving numerous families waterlogged."

Assault victim Md. Rajib Khalifa, who was present at the conference, said, "Driven by a land dispute, Anwar Dewan and his gang ambushed us in a premeditated attack near Galachipa Government College at 11:00 PM on September 12 and broke my arm with iron rods. I demand exemplary punishment for them from the administration."

Another victim present, Piara Begum, said, "During the previous government's rule, Anwar flexed his political influence to forcibly occupy my registered land. Through you, I seek proper justice against Anwar."

Attempts to reach the absconding warranted accused, Anwar Dewan, by mobile phone were unsuccessful as his device was turned off.

Addressing the matter, Acting Principal of Galachipa Government College Md. Liakat Ali stated, "College Principal Md. Forkan Kabir is currently undergoing medical treatment in Dhaka. He will make the final decision regarding this issue."

Meanwhile, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Galachipa Police Station Imtiaj Ahmed remarked, "Police efforts are actively ongoing to trace and arrest the absconding warranted accused, Anwar Dewan."
