Three members of an inter-district robber gang have been arrested by the SRB in connection with the robbery of 26 lakh Taka from an employee of a business establishment by impersonating members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Hemayetpur, Savar. Local and indigenous weapons, equipment used in the robbery, and a motorcycle were recovered from their possession.
The matter was confirmed through a press release by the SRB on Tuesday afternoon. Earlier that morning, Tuesday (October 6), they were arrested during a raid conducted in the Tekerhat residential area of Rajoir Police Station in Madaripur district, according to the agency.
The arrestees are Md. Jewel Sikdar (40), Md. Tamim (24), and Uzzal Sardar (20).
According to the SRB press release, the owner of RK Enterprise in Hemayetpur Purbohati Uttarpara, Savar, Md. Rezaউল Karim, regularly conducted large financial transactions through the IFIC Bank. On September 10 at around 11:00 AM, the establishment's employee, Md. Israfil Haque (38), withdrew 26 lakh Taka from the Hemayetpur branch for business purposes. While crossing the Dhaka-Aricha highway near the Hemayetpur bus stand with the money in a bag, a few individuals inside a private car began following him. At one point, they surrounded Israfil, posing as RAB members, and attempted to snatch the bag of money. When Israfil refused to hand over the bag, they threatened to kill him. Eventually, the attackers brutally beat him with iron rods and fled with the bag containing 26 lakh Taka. Following the incident, Rezaউল Karim, the owner of RK Enterprise, filed a case as the plaintiff at the Savar Model Police Station.
Meanwhile, an SRB team visited the scene and launched a shadow investigation. Later, based on information technology and intelligence inputs, the locations of the accused were identified. On Tuesday morning, a raid was conducted in the Tekerhat residential area of Rajoir Police Station, Madaripur, and three individuals involved in the incident were arrested. The arrested individuals have been sent to the relevant police station to face legal action, the SRB stated.
