
Police have arrested six individuals, including three bank staff members, in connection with the BDT 3.4 million heist targeting an Islami Bank agent banking branch in Raninagar, Naogaon.
During the drives conducted up to Thursday (October 8), law enforcement officers recovered BDT 142,000 of the looted cash, seized an unregistered motorcycle used in the mugging, an iPhone, and six other mobile phones.
The joint operations were conducted by the District Detective Branch (DB) and Raninagar Police Station under the direct supervision of Superintendent of Police Mohammad Tariqul Islam.
According to police sources, the incident took place around 12:50 PM on October 6. Cashier Najmul and office assistant Russel were transporting BDT 3.4 million on a motorcycle to the Abadpukur market office from Firoz Hossain, the owner of the Islami Bank Abadpukur Agent Banking outlet. As they crossed Paroil Market and reached the Banglalink tower area, muggers on another motorcycle intercepted them, assaulted Najmul with iron rods, and fled with the bag of cash.
Following the mugging, SP Mohammad Tariqul Islam ordered immediate action. Utilizing information technology, a joint team launched an investigation that led to the arrest of motorcycle owner Rabbi Ali on the same night, along with the seizure of the vehicle involved in the crime. Subsequent raids led to the arrest of five other suspects, including three internal bank employees.
