
The Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) detained Mahfuz Alam, Joint General Secretary of the Upazila Jatiyatabadi Tanti Dal, while he was actively consuming drugs in Ishwardi upazila, Pabna. During the same raid, officers arrested his tenant, Md. Abdur Razzaq, along with 50 pieces of Tapentadol tablets.The raid was conducted on Friday (October 9) evening in the Juktitola area of Pakshi Union under the leadership of Sub-Inspector Md. Sher Alam from the Ishwardi 'B' Circle office of the DNC Pabna district.According to raid sources, officers initially detained Abdur Razzaq standing behind Mahfuz Alam’s residence. A search of a Gold Leaf cigarette packet in his front right trouser pocket led to the recovery of 50 Tapentadol tablets.Subsequent searching of Mahfuz Alam’s bedroom caught him consuming Tapentadol tablets. Sub-Inspector Md. Sher Alam confirmed that a case under the Narcotics Control Act was filed against tenant Abdur Razzaq at Ishwardi Police Station, while Mahfuz Alam was sentenced via a mobile court.Following the arrest, Nafis Ahmed Arif, President of Ishwardi Upazila Jatiyatabadi Tanti Dal, confirmed Mahfuz's party designation and stated that district leaders have been informed to initiate organizational action, adding that he will be expelled from the party shortly.Tapentadol, originally an opioid painkiller, has seen widespread misuse as a recreational drug in recent times, raising concern among local authorities in Ishwardi.
