The Ministry of Education has announced a major expansion of the National Outstanding Teacher Awards, increasing the number of honored educators from 12 to 100 for World Teachers' Day 2026.
The decision was finalized during a National Steering Committee meeting chaired by Prime Minister’s Education Adviser Dr. Mahdi Amin at the Ministry of Education conference room on Monday (September 28, 2026). Dr. Amin stated that the expansion reflects the Prime Minister’s vision to elevate the dignity and social status of educators who shape the nation’s future generations. The awards will encompass educators from primary schools, general secondary, technical, and madrasa streams, as well as specialized tertiary institutions covering medical, agricultural, engineering, and basic sciences. Final selections are being compiled from nominations submitted by educational institutions nationwide. The awards ceremony will take place on World Teachers' Day on October 5, 2026, with the Prime Minister expected in attendance.
The steering committee meeting was attended by Minister for Education and Primary & Mass Education Dr. A.N.M. Ehsanul Hoque Milan, Minister of State for LGRD & Co-operatives Mir Shahe Alam, Secondary and Higher Education Division Secretary Abdul Khalek, and Director General of DSHE Dr. Khan Moinuddin Al Mahmud Sohel, alongside top education administrators.
