Director Asif Islam's acclaimed feature film 'King in the Land of Princess' has been officially selected for two premier film festivals in Australia: the Indian Film Festival of Sydney and the Indian Film Festival of Perth.
Director Asif Islam confirmed the double selection on Wednesday (October 7, 2026), marking another milestone in the film's international circuit following its previous screenings at the prestigious Moscow International Film Festival, Kazan International Film Festival, and the Melbourne Film Festival. The Indian Film Festival of Sydney will run from October 29 through November 1, featuring high-profile South Asian cinema, while the Indian Film Festival of Perth is scheduled from November 12 to November 15 under the same festival organizing network. The movie explores the gradual decline of traditional Bangladeshi Jatra folk theatre under modern commercial pressures, focusing on how a dancer named 'Princess Rosy'—played by actress Ashna Habib Bhabna—becomes the primary draw over classic drama scripts. Bhabna gained roughly 9 kilograms to portray the character, performing alongside authentic, real-life Jatra troupe artists who comprise the remainder of the cast.
