Ending 15 years of speculation, prominent film and television producer Ektaa R. Kapoor has officially announced a sequel to the critically and commercially acclaimed 2011 Bollywood blockbuster The Dirty Picture.
Speaking on Ranveer Allahbadia's podcast, Ektaa Kapoor confirmed that she is actively developing The Dirty Picture 2 after finding a story compelling enough to expand the franchise. While keeping the lead cast, director, and official release date under wraps, the producer explained that like the original—which was loosely based on late South Indian actress Silk Smitha—the upcoming sequel will focus on a prominent woman who defied social condemnation to celebrate her own sexuality and choices.
Refusing to view such figures as victims, Ektaa emphasized that the new script carries a fresh, powerful narrative surrounding female autonomy. The original film, released in December 2011 and starring Vidya Balan alongside Naseeruddin Shah, Emraan Hashmi, and Tusshar Kapoor, earned National Film Awards and broke widespread box office records. Ektaa hinted that a formal announcement revealing the protagonist and main cast will follow shortly.
