Tollywood director Srijit Mukherji has captured widespread attention across West Bengal’s film industry with his highly anticipated period drama Emperor vs Sarat Chandra, slated for a major theatrical release this Durga Puja.
Speaking about the casting journey for iconic literary figure Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay, Srijit disclosed that although actor Anirban Bhattacharya was initially considered, he kept searching for the absolute match. The breakthrough came unexpectedly: while examining four photographs of Sarat Chandra from different stages of his life over a prawn cutlet, Srijit realized actor Tota Roy Chowdhury perfectly fitted the legendary author's physical and emotional profile. Addressing box office competition and screen allocation debates during the festive Puja season, the director expressed firm confidence in the film's artistic merit and commercial success, while advocating for clean, respectful competition within Tollygunge. Reflecting on his career track record since 2010, Srijit emphasized his sustained commitment to balancing critical acclaim with commercial success without engaging in toxic industry rivalries.
