Meghna Alam Misses Out on BNP Nomination for Reserved Women's Seat; Eliza Zaman Gets the Ticket
The BNP central office and national electoral institutions overseeing the reserved seat by-election timeline.

Model and politician Meghna Alam, who recently drew widespread attention for her attire resembling late BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, has failed to secure the party's nomination for the upcoming Jatiya Sangsad reserved women's seat by-election. Instead, the BNP has chosen central executive committee member Eliza Zaman as its official candidate.

The decision was confirmed by BNP Media Cell member Shairul Kabir Khan on Monday (October 26, 2026). Meghna Alam had submitted her nomination papers at the BNP central office on October 18, seeking party endorsement. Following her submission, her meeting with party leadership drew considerable public interest due to her styling and attire, which many social media users compared to Khaleda Zia's signature look. Although Meghna previously clarified that the resemblance was unintentional and a result of dressing modestly and elegantly, she has not yet made any public comments regarding the party's final nomination outcome.

The official BNP nominee, Eliza Zaman, serves as a member of the BNP central executive committee, joint convener of Pirozpur District BNP, and Barishal divisional organizing secretary of the Jatiyatabadi Mohila Dal. The reserved seat became vacant following the resignation of MP Ferdousi Ahmed Misty on October 1. According to the Election Commission's schedule, Monday is the final day for submitting nomination papers, with scrutiny set for October 27, appeal procedures through October 29, withdrawal by November 1, symbol allocation on November 2, and polling scheduled for November 12, 2026.
