Bangladeshi feature film Roid (The Sun) achieved major recognition at the 12th Mosaic International Film Festival (Mosa3ik) in Canada, securing three major awards including Best Actress for lead star Nazifa Tushi.
Recognized as a vital platform for South Asian cinema over the past decade, the festival honored Tushi for her compelling performance as Sadu's wife in the Mejbaur Rahman Sumon-directed narrative. Alongside the acting accolade, Roid picked up awards for Best Cinematography and Best Music, prompting celebrations across the film's cast and production team. The festival's Best Film award went to Nepal's Elephants in the Fog, which previously earned the Jury Prize in the Un Certain Regard section at the Cannes Film Festival. Having previously competed in the main competition at the International Film Festival Rotterdam, Roid reimagines the mythical tale of Adam and Eve within a rural Bangladeshi setting. Featuring performances by Nazifa Tushi, Mostafizur Noor Imran, Gazi Rakayet, and Ahsabul Yamin Reyad, the film has also been officially selected as Bangladesh's submission for the Best International Feature Film category at the upcoming Academy Awards.
