Today marks the death anniversary of Ayub Bachchu, the undisputed wizard of the "Rupali Guitar" and the trailblazer who brought rock and band music to the hearts of millions in Bangladesh. Passing away on October 18, 2018, the legendary artist left behind an immortal legacy that continues to inspire generations of musicians and fans alike. Family prayers, memorial discussions, and tribute events are being held across the country to commemorate his passing.
Beyond his staggering musical achievements—from his early days with Feelings and Souls to founding the iconic band LRB (Love Runs Blind) in 1991 and releasing 16 acclaimed solo albums—Bachchu harbored grand, visionary dreams that remained unfulfilled. In past interviews, the maestro shared his ultimate concert fantasy: a massive three-hour open-air mega show at Manik Mia Avenue drawing 1.5 million (15 lakh) spectators. His dream lineup featured international guitar legends such as Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Carlos Santana, and drummer Ian Paice, sharing the stage with Bangladeshi rock greats James, Bassbaba Sumon, and Manam Ahmed.
Additionally, Bachchu deeply desired to establish a premier institutional academy where aspiring youth could receive professional training in guitars and various musical instruments to shape the future of Bangladeshi band music. Though that institutional dream remained unfulfilled, his profound impact lives on. In 2026, he was posthumously honored with the prestigious Ekushey Padak, and his hometown of Chittagong immortalized his memory with a striking guitar sculpture at Prabortak More.
