Today marks the birth anniversary of Andrew Kishore, the undisputed 'Playback Emperor' of Bangladeshi cinema whose emotive voice defined generations of film music. Born in Rajshahi on November 4, 1955, to teachers Khitish Chandra Baroi and Minu Baroi, Kishore was inspired by his mother—an ardent fan of Kishore Kumar, after whom she named her son.
Andrew Kishore began his playback career in 1977 with the film Mail Train ('Achinpurer Rajkumari') under composer Alam Khan. He skyrocketed to nationwide fame with hits like "Ek Chor Jay Chole" (1979) and won his first National Film Award in 1982 for "Hayre Manush Rongin Fanus" from the film Boro Bhalo Lok Chilo. Over a prolific career spanning thousands of songs, he earned a record eight National Film Awards, five Bachsas Awards, and two Meril Prothom Alo Awards.
