Eight more dengue patients have died while 1,860 others were admitted to hospitals across the country in the past 24 hours, according to the latest regular dengue bulletin issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Wednesday (October 7, 2026).

With the fresh fatalities, the nationwide death toll from mosquito-borne dengue fever this year has risen to 289, while total hospitalizations reached 92,216. Monthly DGHS statistics reveal a steep rise in fatalities during the post-monsoon period, recording 148 deaths in September alone, followed by 42 deaths during the first six days of October, 43 in August, 36 in July, 13 in June, one in May, and two each in January and February. Out of the 1,860 new patients hospitalized over the last 24 hours until 8:00 AM Wednesday, the highest number of admissions was recorded in the Dhaka Division with 730 patients, followed by Khulna Division with 376, Chittagong Division with 216, Barisal Division with 200, Rajshahi Division with 176, Mymensingh Division with 110, and Rangpur Division with 38. A total of 1,852 patients were discharged from healthcare facilities over the past 24 hours, bringing total nationwide recoveries to 86,152 as health authorities urge city corporations to intensify anti-mosquito spraying operations.
