Bangladesh recorded its highest single-day surge of dengue hospitalizations this year, with 1,872 new patients admitted to hospitals across the country in 24 hours until Tuesday morning (September 22, 2026). Five additional deaths were reported during the same period, bringing the total dengue fatalities in 2026 to 195.
According to the daily bulletin issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), the total number of hospitalized dengue cases this year has reached 65,499. Mortality figures indicate a sharp seasonal spike, with 98 deaths recorded in the first 22 days of September alone, following 43 deaths in August, 36 in July, 13 in June, one in May, and two each in January and February.
Geographically, Dhaka Division logged the highest number of new hospitalizations in the last 24 hours at 781 cases, followed by Khulna with 316, Chittagong with 285, Barisal with 190, Rajshahi with 162, Mymensingh with 105, Rangpur with 67, and Sylhet Division with six cases. Meanwhile, 1,477 patients were discharged upon recovery over the last 24 hours, taking total recoveries nationwide to 60,560.
