Defeated far-right Brazilian presidential candidate
Flávio Bolsonaro
has fled to the United States after defying a direct judicial mandate from Brazil’s Supreme Federal Court to hand over his passports, sparking international legal and diplomatic controversy.
According to reports by the BBC and international news agencies, the Supreme Federal Court ordered the 45-year-old senator on Monday, October 26, 2026, to surrender all passports to police within 24 hours as part of an ongoing money-laundering investigation. Following his failure to comply within the deadline, Brazil’s Federal Police officially canceled all of Flávio's Brazilian passports on Tuesday, October 27.
Diplomatic and family-linked sources confirmed that Flávio Bolsonaro has already arrived in Florida, USA, where he is currently staying alongside his brother, Eduardo Bolsonaro. The exact border transit route remains unconfirmed; however, authorities in neighboring Argentina stated that they have no record of Flávio entering their territory. Meanwhile, a senior official at the US Department of State confirmed that entry visas will be granted to Flávio and his family. The flight follows Flávio's narrow defeat in the presidential runoff election against veteran leftist leader Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, who won with 51.79% of valid votes against Flávio's 48.21%. Flávio rejected the election outcome, alleging voting conspiracies, while denying all money-laundering allegations as politically motivated persecution.
