Torrential downpours across the Gaza Strip have submerged thousands of makeshift tents in overcrowded refugee camps, leaving displaced Palestinians in extreme distress. The government media office in Gaza reported on Saturday, November 7, 2026, that at least 70,000 tents were flooded during just 12 hours of continuous rainfall, soaking mattresses, blankets, and essential belongings.
Gaza’s Civil Defense authority confirmed receiving over 1,500 emergency distress calls as water rushed into shelters. While three abandoned structures collapsed under the deluge, no fatalities have been reported so far. Residents in Gaza City were seen using sandbags in desperate attempts to block water channels, while parents hurried to move young children to higher ground. Displaced local Olfat Magdoub shared that mattresses were completely soaked, forcing families to sleep directly on wet ground—repeating hardships faced during earlier rainstorms two weeks ago.
