In a major escalation of the Yemeni civil war, Houthi rebels launched five ballistic missiles targeting the Al-Maashiq Presidential Palace in Aden—the seat of Yemen's internationally recognized government—killing at least 5 people and injuring 16 others on Thursday (October 15, 2026).
According to sources from the Presidential Leadership Council quoted by Anadolu Agency, several senior cabinet ministers and government officials were inside the coastal palace complex when the barrage struck. Yemen's Health Minister Qasem Buhaibeh confirmed via social media that the deceased and injured include palace security guards and civilian administrative employees. He likened the assault to the horrific December 2020 Aden Airport bombing targeting the incoming cabinet, adding that the government will continue its duties despite Houthi aggression.
Yemeni Information Ministry officials confirmed that Prime Minister Shaya Al-Zindani and other key cabinet members were unhurt and moved to secure locations. Meanwhile, official news agency Saba reported that Houthi artillery and shelling also struck civilian homes in the immediate vicinity of the palace compound.
In a statement broadcast on Al-Masirah TV and published on Telegram, Houthi military spokesman Brigadier General Yahya Qasim Saree claimed responsibility, stating that the operation targeted a "Saudi war operations headquarters" within Aden. He warned that any facility hosting Saudi military presence remains a legitimate operational target. This marks the first direct missile assault on the presidential compound since intense fighting resumed between Houthi forces and government troops in July.
