Delhi Police have detained Abhijeet Dipke, founder of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), minutes before his scheduled Tiranga (national flag) rally at Central Park in Connaught Place, New Delhi, on Friday (October 16, 2026).
The detention occurred as CJP supporters attempted to gather at Central Park following Dipke’s call to hoist the national flag in protest against the arrest and five-day judicial remand of party co-founders Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das. Ranka and Das were arrested by Delhi Police on October 13 after defying police bans to hoist the national flag at Jantar Mantar.
The youth-led Cockroach Janta Party has been conducting intensive demonstrations demanding the immediate resignation of India’s Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The party alleges widespread voter-list manipulation designed to favor Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ruling government—including claims that over 70 lakh voters were improperly removed from electoral rolls in West Bengal prior to assembly elections before being quietly reinstated later. Dipke had previously been detained at Delhi Airport on October 10 alongside key associates before being released. Delhi Police have increased security and barricading across Central Park and Jantar Mantar to prevent further unauthorized assemblies.
