Three Saudi citizens, including a commercial airline pilot, were killed on Thursday (October 8, 2026) following a targeted missile attack by Yemen's Houthi rebels on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh.
Saudi Arabia's General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) confirmed the casualties on Friday, detailing that the strike directly impacted airport infrastructure and damaged a grounded Saudia Airlines aircraft.
Flag carrier Saudia confirmed the death of one of its pilots in the strike, noting that no commercial passengers were aboard the targeted aircraft at the time of the impact. The incident marks one of the deadliest strikes on Saudi Arabia's primary aviation hub since direct military engagements resumed last month between Saudi forces and Iran-backed Houthi insurgents.
According to aviation authorities, the assault comprised two distinct strikes targeting both facility infrastructure and tarmac assets, leaving several other individuals injured with varying degrees of severity. The Houthi military command publicly claimed responsibility for targeting the capital's international airport.
