Houthis Launch Ballistic Missiles at Riyadh for Third Straight Day; Saudi Air Defense Intercepts Strikes
Saudi air defense systems launching interceptor missiles over Riyadh on Monday evening following Houthi ballistic missile launches targeting King Khalid International Airport.

Iran-backed Houthi forces in Yemen launched ballistic missiles and drones targeting Saudi Arabia’s capital, Riyadh, and the southwestern city of Khamis Mushait on Monday evening (October 12, 2026), marking the third consecutive day of aerial attacks against the Kingdom.

Saudi-led Coalition spokesman Major General Turki al-Malki confirmed via social media that Saudi air defense systems intercepted and destroyed one ballistic missile aimed at Riyadh and two additional missiles targeting military installations in Khamis Mushait before they could strike their targets. Despite the successful interception, residents in Riyadh reported hearing multiple loud explosions echoing across the city.

Houthi military spokesman Brigadier General Yahya Saree claimed responsibility for the assault, stating that the strikes specifically targeted King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh and a military airbase near the Yemeni border in Khamis Mushait. Saree issued a stern warning to international commercial airlines and travelers, asserting that no Saudi airspace outside the holy cities of Mecca and Medina should be considered safe. The latest barrage follows heavy strikes on Saturday and Sunday targeting King Khalid International Airport, which resulted in 14 fatalities and injured over 300 people across the two days.
