The Counter Intelligence (CI) Cell of the Andhra Pradesh Police has arrested an active-duty Indian Navy sailor from the INS Agrani naval training establishment in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, for allegedly transmitting classified maritime defense intelligence to a female Pakistani intelligence operative in a social media "honey-trap" operation.

The accused, identified as 31-year-old Pradeep Mukherjee, a native of West Bengal who joined the Indian Navy in 2014, was stationed as a sailor with the Eastern Naval Command in Visakhapatnam. Intelligence officials revealed that a female operative linked to Pakistani intelligence befriended Mukherjee on social media several months ago under the guise of a romantic relationship. Over time, Mukherjee allegedly shared sensitive photographs and operational information regarding Visakhapatnam naval base infrastructure, warship fleet movements, and strategic deployments. Following digital surveillance by counter-intelligence units and formal clearance from naval authorities, a specialized CI team arrested Mukherjee on Saturday morning (October 3, 2026) while he was attending a leadership course at INS Agrani. Investigators have transferred him to Vijayawada for further questioning to assess the full extent of compromised data and trace potential financial transactions connected to the espionage ring.
