Voting is underway across Israel on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, for the election of all 120 members of the 26th Knesset. Polls opened at 7:00 AM local time and will close at 10:00 PM local time, deciding whether long-serving Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu secures another mandate or if a new governing coalition takes power.
The election is widely regarded as one of the most consequential in Israel's history. Prime Minister Netanyahu—who has led the country for over 19 years across three separate periods—is fighting for his political survival amid intense public scrutiny following the October 7, 2023 security failures, open-ended multi-front military operations, Haredi draft conscription disputes, and his ongoing domestic corruption trial. Netanyahu's primary campaign arguments rely on his security record, wartime leadership, and close alliance with US President Donald Trump.
Netanyahu's central challenger is former IDF Chief of Staff Gadi Eisenkot, heading the centrist Yashar ("Honesty") party. Final pre-election surveys indicate a neck-and-neck race between Netanyahu's right-wing Likud and Eisenkot's Yashar. A key factor in forming the next government will be coalition building: with 61 seats required for a parliamentary majority, neither the right-wing religious bloc led by Likud nor the main Jewish opposition bloc is projected to reach 61 seats on its own, leaving far-right figures like Itamar Ben-Gvir and Bezalel Smotrich, as well as Palestinian-Israeli parties, in key strategic roles. Official results will be confirmed by November 4, 2026.
