Kasim Khan, the son of incarcerated former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan, has hinted that the Shehbaz Sharif-led government may have extended a release offer to his father, according to a report published by Bloomberg on Monday.
The statement comes as Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) rescheduled its planned political demonstration in Islamabad from September 27 to October 5 following a government-enforced lockdown. Speaking to Bloomberg, Kasim expressed emotional anguish over his father's prolonged detention and deteriorating health in solitary confinement, stating he would personally prefer his father accept a political compromise to secure his release. However, Kasim acknowledged having no direct contact with his father for seven months despite Supreme Court directives granting access. He expressed skepticism that Imran Khan would agree to any conditional deal, citing his father's resolute character and his concern for other imprisoned party members and family relatives. Pakistani Information Minister Attaullah Tarar did not immediately offer a comment regarding the alleged release proposal.
