The Mecca Defense Alliance comprising Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and Turkey has been officially activated following high-level political and defense talks in Riyadh, leading to immediate troop and equipment deployments by Islamabad and Ankara to bolster Saudi national security against Houthi military threats.
The activation decision was finalized during a strategic steering committee meeting in Riyadh on Monday (October 5, 2026), following relentless drone and missile attacks launched by Yemen-based Houthi militants against Saudi oil installations, civilian infrastructure, and economic assets. A joint statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan confirmed that executive committees agreed to fulfill mutual defense commitments and initiate swift military deployments to Saudi Arabia in accordance with national laws and bilateral framework parameters. The landmark meeting was attended by top diplomatic and military officials, including Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, Saudi Defense Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, Turkish Defense Minister Yaşar Güler, Pakistani Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar, and Field Marshal Asim Munir. The committee also formally appointed retired Pakistani Lieutenant General Numan Mahmud as the first Secretary-General of the Mecca Defense Alliance for a three-year term. Established on August 7, 2026, the Mecca Defense Pact stipulates that an armed attack against any member nation constitutes an attack against all three signatories.
