At least eight civilians—including women and children—have been killed and 13 others wounded following two consecutive days of military airstrikes conducted by Myanmar armed forces on camps for displaced persons in Rakhine State, according to reports confirmed by the Arakan Army and the Ponnagyun Youth Association on Monday.
The fresh aerial bombardment comes exactly one week after a deadly military airstrike targeted a crowded market in Rakhine’s Kyauktaw region, which left 50 civilians dead and 58 injured. According to the Arakan Army and local youth advocates, a junta warplane dropped bombs on a displaced persons camp in Ponnagyun township around 5:00 PM local time on Sunday (October 4, 2026), killing six people on the spot and injuring 11 others. A second airstrike was carried out early Monday morning on a neighboring displacement camp in the same township, killing two more civilians and injuring two others. Ponnagyun Youth Association spokesperson Kyaw Win Tun stated that both targeted shelters were inhabited entirely by displaced civilians fleeing ongoing conflict. Rakhine State, which borders Bangladesh, remains a central battleground in Myanmar's civil war, with the Arakan Army controlling large swathes of northern and western territories while the military junta conducts intensive counter-offensives.
