Netanyahu Claims Plumber Saved Hijacked Flydubai Flight Using TV Knowledge; Donald Trump Expresses Skepticism

U.S. President Donald Trump has publicly detailed a conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu regarding Wednesday’s attempted hijacking and crash of a Flydubai flight from Dubai to Tel Aviv, expressing personal skepticism over claims that a plumber with no aviation training saved the aircraft.

Speaking to reporters, President Trump disclosed that Prime Minister Netanyahu briefed him on Yaniv Haiun, an Israeli plumber who met with Netanyahu upon returning to Israel. According to Haiun's account, when the aircraft entered a steep dive after the Omani co-pilot incapacitated the captain, Haiun rushed to the cockpit, pulled the co-pilot away, and engaged the control column to level the plane—claiming he understood basic aviation principles from watching TV documentaries. Trump openly questioned the validity of the account while relaying it to journalists: "That's the story I heard. I don't know if it's true, but that's the story I got from Netanyahu." Trump further noted that an off-duty professional pilot on board subsequently assumed control of the flight deck and executed a safe emergency landing.
