US President Donald Trump rejected Iran's proposed seven-day roadmap to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, telling reporters at the White House on Saturday that the proposal is unacceptable.
Earlier in New York during the UN General Assembly, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that Tehran submitted a new roadmap through intermediaries—shortened from a June 17 memorandum—which proposed halting military operations, lifting US port and oil sanctions, and unfreezing assets within seven days before reopening the strait and subsequently starting nuclear talks.
However, Trump dismissed the plan, noting that Iran is cornered and rushing for a deal, while US officials like Secretary of State Marco Rubio emphasized a preference for methodical, long-term negotiations rather than rushed compromises.
Meanwhile, The Wall Street Journal reported that Trump has privately discussed the possibility of renewed airstrikes on Iran following upcoming midterm elections, though the White House has made no official comment.
