US President Donald Trump has warned that if Democrats capture control of Congress in the midterm elections, he will aggressively deploy his presidential veto power to block opposition legislation, dubbing himself "Mr. Veto." Speaking in an interview on New York Post journalist Miranda Devine’s podcast "Pod Force One," Trump outlined his strategy for managing a potential Democratic-led legislative branch.
Trump stated that if Republicans lose their majority in either the House or the Senate, he will systematically reject bills sent to his desk. He explained that after facing consecutive vetoes for a couple of months, Democrats would recognize the deadlock and come to the negotiating table to reach a compromise. Trump noted he has used his veto power twice during his current second term, following ten vetoes during his first administration. Under the US Constitution, a presidential veto can only be overridden by a two-thirds majority vote in both the House and Senate.

The remarks come as voters head to the polls on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, to decide all 435 House seats and 35 Senate seats, with Democrats needing a net gain of just three seats to seize control of the House of Representatives.
