Very Severe Cyclonic Storm 'Arnab' has officially struck the eastern coast of India, pounding the coastal state of Andhra Pradesh and neighboring regions with torrential rainfall and damaging winds.
According to reports from India Today and NDTV, the forward core of Cyclone Arnab made landfall along the Andhra Pradesh coast early Wednesday (October 28, 2026) between 1:20 AM and 4:00 AM local time, completing landfall faster than initially forecasted.
Data released by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) confirms that Cyclone Arnab crossed the coast between Bapatla and Visakhapatnam as a 'Very Severe Cyclonic Storm'. The system is generating sustained wind speeds of 125 to 135 km/h, with gusts reaching up to 150 km/h. The landfall process is expected to persist over a three-hour window as the system moves inland. In response, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu announced that 2,199 cyclone shelters have been activated, while coastal residents have been evacuated to safety.
The administration has issued urgent advisories instructing citizens to remain indoors. Furthermore, flight operations across Andhra Pradesh, Bhubaneswar (Odisha), Hyderabad, Varanasi, Prayagraj, and Gorakhpur face major delays and cancellations.
