Bangladesh Congress, Dhaka South City unit, staged a human chain in front of the National Press Club on Thursday afternoon (October 8, 2026) to protest the arrest of Kazi Shariful Islam Shakil, the party's central joint organizing secretary and a journalist, in a false and harassing case, demanding his immediate release.
Chaired by Dhaka South City Convenor Nurul Amin Shaheen, the program was addressed by Bangladesh Congress Chairman Advocate Kazi Rezaul Hossain as the chief guest and Secretary General Advocate Md. Yarul Islam as a special guest, with conduct by Central Joint Organizing Secretary Selim Reza Bachchu.
Leaders strongly condemned his arrest—following his detention from the Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police station area in Dhaka and transfer to Monohardi police station in Narsingdi—and called for an immediate halt to the misuse of laws, withdrawal of harassing cases, and restoration of civil and political rights.
