Staff Reporter: Bangladesh Professional Journalists Forum (BPJF) central committee has expressed deep concern, condemnation, and protest over the arrest of journalist Kazi Shariful Islam Shakil, President of the BPJF Central Committee and Editor of Voice BD 24 dot com, while demanding his immediate unconditional release and the withdrawal of all charges filed against him.

In a joint statement issued on Wednesday afternoon, October 7, 2026, BPJF Central Committee Vice-President Mahbub Alam Babu and General Secretary Md. Roman Akhand asserted that continuous professional duties pursued by Shakil are being undermined through fabricated and harassing lawsuits, which threaten independent journalism, freedom of expression, and media security.

Leaders stressed that harassing or arresting journalists or leaders is entirely unacceptable and noted that he was detained around 11:00 AM from the Sher-e-Bangla Nagar area in Dhaka. The organization warned of launching rigorous programs if effective steps to fulfill these demands are not taken promptly, with the statement circulated by Joint General Secretary (Office Charge) S. M. Rezaul Karim.
