The Preventive Team of Dhaka Customs House intercepted a passenger at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) early Thursday and seized 1.29 kilograms of gold paste concealed inside his body.
Acting on secret intelligence regarding potential gold smuggling aboard Air Arabia Flight G9-518 from Sharjah, customs officials placed key airport transit points under heightened surveillance. Around 6:00 AM on Thursday (October 8, 2026), officers intercepted suspect Arman Uddin Siddique in the Baggage Belt-2 area following immigration clearance.
Upon physical search, officers recovered three oval-shaped gold paste packages wrapped in white adhesive tape concealed within his rectum. Each package weighed 430 grams, bringing the total weight to 1,290 grams of 24-karat gold paste. Goldsmith certification confirmed that refining the paste will yield approximately 1 kilogram of pure gold, with an estimated market value of BDT 1.74 crore.
Customs authorities confirmed that legal procedures and criminal smuggling charges against the passenger under the Customs Act are currently underway.
