100% Confident of Victory, But Public Mandate Is Final: BNP Candidate Mirza Faysal Amin

BNP candidate Mirza Faysal Amin has expressed "100% confidence" in winning the Thakurgaon-1 parliamentary by-election, while asserting that the public's verdict is absolute and final.

The BNP nominee made these remarks on Thursday morning, October 29, 2026, after casting his ballot at the Thakurgaon Government Girls' High School polling center. Speaking to reporters shortly after voting, Mirza Faysal Amin noted that while it was premature to evaluate the entire polling environment, the initial atmosphere appeared festive and peaceful. He acknowledged that gloomy, overcast weather might impact initial voter movement, but anticipated strong overall turnout as the day progressed.

Underlining his faith in democratic norms, Faysal Amin stated that he has complete confidence in the voters' choice, adding that no candidate should have the audacity to reject the people's ultimate mandate. The Thakurgaon-1 seat was declared vacant after former Member of Parliament Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir stepped down to assume the office of the President of Bangladesh. Polling commenced uninterruptedly at 8:00 AM and will run through 4:00 PM across 185 centers—comprising 113 centers in Thakurgaon Sadar, 33 in Ruhia, and 39 in Bhulli upazila. A total of 516,138 registered voters are exercising their franchise across 989 polling booths to choose among five competing candidates, led by Mirza Faysal Amin (Sheaf of Paddy) and Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami's Mo. Delawar Hossain (Scale).
