Another group of 174 Bangladeshi nationals who were detained in Libyan detention centers and stranded abroad has returned safely to Bangladesh.
The Buraq Air flight (UZ222) carrying the repatriated citizens landed at Dhaka airport at 5:40 AM on Tuesday (October 27, 2026). Officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment, and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) welcomed the returnees at the airport.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the vast majority of the repatriated individuals had illegally entered Libya via perilous maritime routes orchestrated by human traffickers with the false promise of reaching Europe. Many of the returnees suffered severe physical abuse, extortion, and abduction while trapped in Libya. To raise public awareness against illegal migration, the Ministry urged the returnees to share their harrowing experiences with the public. Meanwhile, IOM provided each returnee with transit allowances, food packages, primary medical attention, and temporary shelter. Repatriation efforts continue through coordinated actions between the Foreign Ministry, the Bangladesh Embassy in Tripoli, and international agencies.
