Four individuals have been formally arrested by police in Dhaka under serious anti-state and incitement charges following an attempt to deface a prominent mural of Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore in front of the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy in Segunbagicha.

The arrested individuals have been identified as ANM Ayas (29), Md. Sakibul Hasan (19), Md. Sujon Miah (18), and Marzia Khondokar Rimi (27). Confirming the legal action on Sunday (October 11, 2026), Deputy Commissioner (DC) of DMP's Ramna Division, Sheikh Zahidul Islam, stated that a case was filed by Shahbagh Police Station charging the group under Sections 120B (criminal conspiracy), 153A (promoting enmity between classes), and 295A (deliberate acts to outrage religious feelings) of the Penal Code.

The arrests were executed after security forces apprehended the suspects on Saturday afternoon while they were attempting to smear ink and vandalize the cultural graffiti while delivering provocative statements aimed at disrupting social and religious harmony.
