Speaker of the Jatiya Sangshad Hafiz Uddin Ahmad returned to Dhaka on Sunday (October 11, 2026) following his delegation's successful participation in the 153rd Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly held in Arusha, Tanzania.

During the assembly, Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad officially assumed the chairmanship of the 37-nation IPU Asia-Pacific Group (APG) on October 5, succeeding Speaker of Bhutan Tempa Dorji. Markedly strengthening Bangladesh's parliamentary diplomacy, Barrister Joharat Adib Chowdhury, Chairperson of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, was also elected as an Executive Committee member representing the Asia-Pacific region.

The high-level parliamentary delegation included Opposition Whips Mia Nuruddin Ahmed Opu, Sarwar Jamal Nizam, Sultan Mahmud Babu, Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas, SK Azizul Bari, Hummam Quader Chowdhury, Mir Ahmad Bin Quasem, Sansila Jebrin, and Rokeya Begum. Upon their arrival at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport alongside Parliament Secretariat Secretary Barrister Golam Sarwar Bhuiyan, the delegation was warmly received by senior officials from the Parliament Secretariat and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
