Dhaka Metropolitan Police's Shah Ali Police Station has arrested four individuals in connection with the midnight attack, vandalism, and looting at the Radda MCH-FP Center in Mirpur-1.
Shah Ali Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Jahangir Alam confirmed the arrests on Saturday afternoon. The arrested individuals have been identified as Md. Sohel (22), Md. Jewel (23), Zihad Hasan (21), and Md. Rabbi (20). According to police, three of the arrested suspects are homeless individuals from the Shah Ali shrine area who allegedly took part in the demolition in exchange for money. Police operations are ongoing to apprehend the remaining culprits.
The incident occurred late Thursday night when a group of more than 200 masked assailants carrying local weapons stormed the facility. They held two security guards hostage, looted valuable medical equipment, medicines, vaccines, and cash, and completely demolished one permanent and three semi-permanent structures using heavy machinery.
Operating since 1974, the Radda MCH-FP Center has been a vital healthcare institution providing maternal and child healthcare, reproductive health services, and routine vaccinations to underprivileged and low-income populations in Mirpur.
