Mahdi Amin, Adviser to the Prime Minister on Expatriates' Welfare & Overseas Employment and Labor & Employment Affairs, has urged the public and media outlets to refrain from spreading false narratives surrounding a photo taken between Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and US President Donald Trump.
Speaking at a press conference held at the Secretariat on Sunday (October 4, 2026), Mahdi Amin clarified that the photograph was originally released directly by the White House and subsequently shared by the US Embassy in Dhaka on Sunday. Addressing online speculation, he condemned the unhealthy competition for social media views and viral traction, emphasizing that political discourse should be rooted in factual integrity rather than deliberate disinformation. The adviser also countered misinformation concerning the Prime Minister's family members, clarifying that Dr. Zubaida Rahman was falsely linked to a controversial event, while Zaima Rahman secured a position at the United Nations strictly through her individual merit without any Bangladesh government involvement. Reaffirming the administration's commitment to freedom of speech, Mahdi Amin called on all political parties and citizens to practice constructive criticism while prioritizing the nation's dignity and democratic progress.
