The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed a formal corruption case against 14 individuals, including officials and employees from Bangladesh Railway, Chittagong City Corporation (CCC), and Border Bank PLC, for allegedly embezzling BDT 96,90,000 through fabricated billing.

The case was lodged on Monday (October 26, 2026) at ACC Chittagong Integrated District Office-1 by Deputy Director Md. Riaz Uddin, with details made public on Tuesday (October 27). According to the case statement, the fraud took place between November 2023 and January 2024. The accused conspired to generate an unauthorized fake bill of BDT 96.90 lakh in excess of four legitimate bills belonging to a firm named "The Cosmopolitan Corporation."

Investigators discovered that a check for the fraudulent amount was issued on December 31, 2023, and deposited the following day into an account opened under the firm's name at Border Bank's Agrabad branch, from which the entire sum was subsequently withdrawn. The accused railway personnel—including temporary worker Md. Habibullah Khan, former auditor Paban Kumar Palit, and accounts officers—failed to enter the bogus bill into official registers and bypassed verification protocols. Furthermore, City Corporation tax inspectors and Border Bank executives facilitated trade licensing and account opening using forged identification of a woman named Kohinoor Akter, who later denied any association with the business. ACC officials confirmed that charges have been pressed under Sections 409, 467, 468, 471, and 109 of the Penal Code and Section 5(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1947.
