Police have submitted a charge sheet in court against four accused in the murder case of Ishayat Shahriar Apratim (13), a seventh-grader and the son of Nahida Begum, an associate professor in the Department of Bengali at Comilla University (CoU). Although the charge sheet was submitted on October 20, the police media cell confirmed the matter to the media on Friday.
Md. Lutfor Rahman, District Police Media Officer and Additional Superintendent of Police, stated that a charge sheet has been submitted to the court against four accused, including two juveniles. The investigation found primary truth regarding their involvement in the crime. The investigation revealed that Apratim was murdered out of a plan to snatch his mobile phone.
Those accused in the charge sheet are Saiful Islam alias Tuhin (19), Md. Siyam (19), and two juveniles aged 15 and 16. Charges have been brought against them under sections 302, 201, and 34 of the Penal Code. In accordance with the Children Act, the two juveniles have been designated as children in the charge sheet. They are currently being held at the Gazipur Child Development Center.
Earlier last Saturday, Comilla Superintendent of Police Md. Anisuzzaman had stated that a charge sheet in the case would be submitted within a week.
The victim's father, businessman KM Firoz Shahriar, said that he learned about the submission of the charge sheet on Thursday night, but he does not know the details. He demanded a speedy verdict in the case. He alleged that the ages of two of the accused have been shown as younger and demanded a redetermination of their ages through DNA testing.
Rajib Ahmed, Inspector (Investigation) of Comilla Sadar Dakshin Model Police Station and the investigating officer of the case, said the charge sheet has been submitted. He advised contacting the police media cell for detailed information.
On the afternoon of September 18, Apratim went missing from the Kotbari area of Comilla after going out to take pictures with an iPhone. He did not return home that day. Later, his father, KM Firoz Shahriar, filed a General Diary (GD) at Sadar Dakshin Police Station.
The next day, on September 19, police recovered Apratim's body from a jungle in the Sananda area of Lalmai Hills, not far from Comilla University. The accused were subsequently arrested after analyzing CCTV footage. The incident sparked widespread sensation across the country, with allegations surfacing that the accused were connected to a teenage gang (Kishore Gang). Following this, police launched a massive crackdown against teenage gangs across Comilla.
